Welcome to Cheryl McDonald's Music For Young Children website.

Music For Young Children classes provide a child friendly environment to introduce children to music in a fun, stimulating manner.  Classes are taught in small groups with a parent actively involved with their child in each class. Classes are well-balanced with learning activities that include ensemble time at the keyboards, singing, playing rhythm ensembles, solo times, listening and theory activities and composing.  Parent participation in the classes enhances the piano practice and homework at home.

I discovered Music For Young Children when I was looking for a program for my children that would provide the instruction they needed to learn piano skills in a structured but enjoyable setting. Music For Young Children met the needs I was looking for and provided an opportunity to share the experience with my children, offering so much more than just piano lessons. I've been teaching the program for over 35 years and I'm still very pleased with the results, especially when I see the looks of pride on both parents and children at our year end recitals.

I am Music For Young Children Certified, a Registered Music Teacher (Early Childhood Music) in Ontario, and an Royal Conservatory of Music Elementary Specialist - Piano designation.   I have my Bachelor of Nursing Degree from the University of Manitoba and my experience as a Registered Nurse has been an asset with parents and children as we work together and make learning music fun.

Music For Young Children also has a music program for adults. You can enjoy a relaxed method of learning to play in a group.

My home studio allows the students to play acoustic and digital pianos and keyboards during the classes. Each student is assigned a piano and space and we rotate to different pianos each lesson. Please dress comfortably because we're quite active during the classes. Classes will be in person for students and parents who are fully vaccinated with the required school vaccines and on-line lessons for those who are not. Online lessons are available for students over 8 years old, however are not recommended for students 7 and under without a parent present at all times. Thank you, Cheryl
