I discovered the Music For Young Children program at Camerata Music when I was looking for music lessons for my own children.  I was extremely impressed with the program.  Not only were my children learning to read music and play the piano, but were gaining a music education!   The use of rhythm instruments, singing and solfege, music theory, hands-on games, sight/ear training and composing (Yes, even my 3 year old was able to compose her own song!) was developing an incredible music foundation.

I was encouraged to apply to MYC to teach the program when the studio, Camerata Music, was looking for another teacher.  I applied, was accepted and this September 2026, I will be starting my 26th year teaching MYC.  My former experience of teaching in a private school for 5 years, training musicians at church, working with children and adult choirs and heading children's programs was a great training ground for my MYC classes.

I tell parents I have the best job!  I get to see children (and even their parents) grow in music knowledge while we sing, play, laugh and learn.  I observe friendships build through the group lessons that go beyond the classroom.  Music For Young Children is a unique program.   I thoroughly enjoyed going through MYC with my children, and now am privileged to teach this wonderful program.

Camerata Music: I teach in a unique music school, Camerata Music, that was founded in 1980.  It is a co-op of professional musicians and experienced teachers who join together in their philosophies but work as independent musicians and teachers in their chosen field.  We offer MYC, as well as private piano, accordion, voice, and all theoretical subjects.   We can start students as young as 2 ½ years old with our MYC Sunrise pre-keyboard program, and take them all the way to their ARCT exam!

MYC Kanata:   This studio is located within the international headquarters for Music for Young Children.  With the growth of the west end of the city, I was able to start teaching at this location in 2021, to help meet the demand for MYC classes in the Kanata/Stittsville area.
