I really enjoy teaching the Music for Young Children program because I love to work with children and to share my passion for music. I believe that every child has the potential to enjoy music and gain musical and life skills through studying music. Playing the piano, in particular, teaches children concentration, coordination, patience, self-discipline, memorization, organization and dedication. It is the only human activity that uses the whole brain and has been proven to improve academics; for example, it wires the brain for the complex math and science procedures that children will learn to do at high school. Music for Young Children is fun, age-appropriate and extremely effective for providing children with the solid foundation they need to succeed in private lessons. I am a highly-qualified music teacher with a Master of Music in Music History, Theory and Composition, as well as an ARCT singing performance diploma, a piano teachers' diploma (Licentiate of Trinity College of London, LTCL) and Grade 8 Trinity College of London, violin. I am a registered private piano teacher (RMT) with 38 years of teaching experience and a busy private piano practice. In addition, I am a Coquitlam School District Music specialist, presently teaching elementary school music. For the past 24 years, I have been teaching Music for Young Children. A highlight of my performing career is the production of my first vocal CD in 2002, entitled 'Memories of Prague.' This CD was inspired by my tour to Prague in Spring of 2002 with the Pacific Singers, as soprano soloist. Presently, I was a soloist with the St. Andrews Wesley United Church Chancel Choir for 25 years and presently, I am also a soloist at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. I am an avid advocate for Music Education and sit on several boards: presently I am President of Coquitlam Music Teachers' Association (CMTA), I am the Coordinator for the Coastal-Fraser Choirs for BC Choral Federation, Vice President of the Kodály Society of BC and I am Chair of the Spirit of Life Lutheran Church Council. We have 2 recitals in the first weekend of February and the last weekend in May. I run a Fun Music Carnival for lesson 36, the last lesson of the year, in my backyard. If you need to take Zoom lessons on occasion, I have that option. I look forward to meeting you and your child to register him/her in this fabulous program.
