BIO

Hi!  I'm Beth Emmers,

I am so excited to be part of the Music For Young Children team!

I started playing piano as soon as I could touch the keys and was playing by ear at the age of 3.  When I started playing my big brother's Grade 6 Conservatory songs at the age of 5, my mom knew it was time to put me into lessons.  I'm so thankful for that decision!  I am a firm believer in starting kids young in their music study. Music is a huge part of who I am and I can't imagine my life without it.

I started my teaching career very early at the age of 13 at the encouragement from my teacher.  From there I've had many opportunities to stretch and grow as a teacher.  I've been able to create and run a few different musical theatre camps, teach singing time for children at church, teach group and private piano classes at Merriam School of Music in Oakville, ON, and instruct others on how to teach young children piano and singing.

I grew up studying Royal Conservatory and reached my grade 9.  I decided to try something new when I finished high school and headed off to Toronto to study jazz piano at Humber College.  I had many awesome experiences there including playing for various soloists, learning to arrange music, performing with jazz and Latin bands and creating concerts with my own band.

I have also sung in many choirs including; LCI Chamber Choir, LCI Jazz Choir, and many church choirs.  I have had the opportunity to play for junior high school choirs, LA Jazz Choir, and the theatre in Cardston, AB for shows like; Anne of Green Gables, Musical Reviews, and Phantom of the Country Opera.

My other musical passion is song writing and arranging.  I have written many songs over the years.  I still remember my first one that I wrote when I was about 5 years old.  I was invited to the Alberta Provincial Festival twice, placing 2nd for my piece 'Prima Vista'  and 3rd for my song 'Lover's Lullaby'. In 2015, I won 2nd place in an international Contemporary Christian song writing competition.

Through Covid I decided to increase my skills as a piano teacher by taking the Elementary and Intermediate certification levels through Royal Conservatory, scoring 99% and 93% respectively.  I also decided to revisited my own music education and began my journey through level 10 piano!  This decision lead me to have the opportunity to attend, perform and study at the International Music Festival in Cremona, Italy.  I have since finished my level 10 practical exam with the high mark of 95.

All of these musical endeavors have only been achieved because of supportive parents & family, a bit of hard work, and most importantly great teachers!  I hope that I will have the pleasure of helping your child reach his/her best potential in their musical career.  It is never too soon or too late to learn!!  🙂
