Hi! I'm Amy Martens.  Welcome to my website!

I am a certified  Music For Young Children teacher and I absolutely love the program.  I believe that music lessons should be enjoyed by children as well as their parents, and that is what this program is all about.  Here at MYC your child will be given a fabulous music education in a fun and enthusiastic learning environment.  In our group setting, we take a holistic approach to music learning that helps students build skills in the following areas:

-playing piano/keyboard
-singing
-rhythm exercises
-ensemble/group playing
-composition
-sight reading & ear training
-performing
-theory
-music history

September 2024 marks my 14th year of teaching the Music For Young Children curriculum.  I have taught private piano lessons for the past 20 years, and have also taught private drum lessons for 3 years.

Music has always been a big part of my life.  I began piano lessons at the age of 4 and completed my Gr. 10 Piano Certificate through the Royal Conservatory of Music as well as the Gr. 4 Theory certification through RCM.  I also have a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from PBI in Three Hills, AB and am currently working towards obtaining my ARCT certification through the Royal Conservatory.

I have experience playing piano and singing in college and church choirs, worship bands and at community events.  I have toured Western Canada as well as Ukraine with the Ambassador Choir as a singer and choir accompanist.  I was involved in the music program at Hillcrest Church, leading music through singing and playing piano, for 7 years.  Currently, I play piano at our local church here in Seven Persons.   I also enjoyed the privilege of getting involved in our community by accompanying the choir at Seven Persons School.

Although I teach music, my first job is that of a wife and mom.  I have been married to my husband Conrad for 19 years, and am a mom to two beautiful daughters and two handsome little men.  All four of my kids have gone through the MYC program  and loved it!  Our youngest is finishing his final year of MYC with me this year.

Teaching my own kids has also given me wonderful insight in how to be a better teacher as I have had opportunity to see the class from the perspective as both the teacher and the Mom attending.  I love my kids and believe strongly in the importance of family.  That is another reason why I enjoy teaching Music For Young Children.  Our parented lessons provide an opportunity for you and your child to grow and learn together.  It is very rewarding to watch my students and parents grow closer together as they learn alongside one another.  The opportunity to learn and improve is one of the best gifts you can give your child.
